King Stefan Uroš III, after months of anarchy, surrenders to his son and rival Stefan Dušan, who succeeds as King of Serbia.
The Serbian civil war of 1331 broke out following King Stefan Uro III's decision not to continue campaigning against the Byzantine Empire when he had the chance following the victory at the Battle of Velbazhd against Bulgaria, alienating much of the nobility, which became divided supporting either Uro III or his son, Stefan Duan.
Stefan Uroš III (Serbian Cyrillic: Стефан Урош III, pronounced [stɛ̂faːn ûrɔʃ trɛ̂tɕiː] (listen)), known as Stefan Dečanski (Serbian Cyrillic: Стефан Дечански, Serbian pronunciation: [stɛ̂faːn dɛ̂tʃaːnskiː]; c. 1276 – 11 November 1331), was the King of Serbia from 6 January 1322 to 8 September 1331. Dečanski was the son of King Stefan Milutin (d. 1321). He defeated two other pretenders to the Serbian throne. Stefan is known as Dečanski after the great Monastery of Visoki Dečani he built.
