César Cedeño, Dominican baseball player and coach
César Cedeño Encarnación (born February 25, 1951) is a former professional baseball center fielder. He played seventeen seasons in Major League Baseball from 1970 to 1986 for the Houston Astros, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers. In a 17-year career, Cedeño was a .285 hitter with 199 home runs and 976 runs batted in in 2,006 games. His 550 stolen bases rank him 27th on the all-time list, and the 487 steals he accumulated with the Astros ranks him first on the franchise's all-time leader list. A 1973 offseason incident in his native Dominican Republic, that resulted in Cedeño's conviction for involuntary manslaughter in the death of his 19-year-old mistress, substantially clouded the remainder of his career, especially Cedeño's reputation with fans; Cedeño received no prison time and was fined $100.
