Angelique Kerber, German tennis player
Angelique Kerber (German: [ʔan.d͡ʒɛˈliːk ˈkɛɐ̯bɐ] (listen); born 18 January 1988) is a German professional tennis player. A former world No. 1 and winner of three Grand Slam tournaments, she made her professional debut in 2003 and began her rise to prominence upon reaching the semifinals of the 2011 US Open as the No. 92-ranked player in the world. An accomplished left-handed player of her time, Kerber's ranking cracked the top 5 in 2012, and she would eventually reach the top of the rankings on 12 September 2016, thus becoming the 22nd and oldest player to achieve the world No. 1 ranking for the first time. She has won 13 career singles titles – across all surfaces – including multiple Grand Slam titles: the 2016 Australian Open, the 2016 US Open and the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. She has also won a silver medal while representing Germany at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
