A Mongol victory at the Battle of Yamen ends the Song dynasty in China.
The naval Battle of Yamen (Chinese: ) (also known as the Naval Battle of Mount Ya; Chinese: ) took place on 19 March 1279 and is considered to be the last stand of the Song dynasty against the invading Mongol-led Yuan dynasty. Although outnumbered 10:1, the Yuan navy delivered a crushing tactical and strategic victory, destroying the Song.
Today, the battle site is located at Yamen, in Xinhui County, Jiangmen, Guangdong, China.

The Mongols are the principal member of the large family of Mongolic peoples. The Oirats in Western Mongolia as well as the Buryats and Kalmyks of Russia are classified either as distinct ethno-linguistic groups or subgroups of Mongols.
The Mongols are bound together by a common heritage and ethnic identity. Their indigenous dialects are collectively known as the Mongolian language. The ancestors of the modern-day Mongols are referred to as Proto-Mongols.
