Eugenio Derbez, Mexican actor, director, producer, and screenwriter

Eugenio González Derbez (Spanish: [ewˈxenjo ðeɾˈβes]; born September 2, 1961) is a Mexican actor, comedian, and filmmaker. He was born and raised in Mexico City and expressed interest in acting at an early age, landing his first roles as extras in soap operas at age 12. He later studied at the Mexican Film Institute and the Artistic Education Center , landing his first television role in the comedy TV series Cachún Cachún Ra Ra!. Derbez made his directing debut in 1997 with a mexican soap opera named No Tengo Madre.

In 2002, Derbez and Florinda Meza co-created a sitcom named XHDRBZ, which marked his debut as a producer. Also in 2002, Derbez co-created, co-directed, and starred in the family sitcom La familia P. Luche, which gained Derbez further recogniton amongst the Mexican and Latin community. In the early 2010s, Derbez began appearing in many American films and television series, such as Jack and Jill, Girl in Progress, Rob!, and Miracles from Heaven. Apart from appearing in live-action roles, Derbez has appeared in animated films, including The Book of Life and The Angry Birds Movie 2. Derbez voiced the Spanish versions of many characters in the Spanish versions of American films, including Dr. Dolittle, Mulan, 102 Dalmatians, The Shrek franchise, Dr. Dolittle 2, Mulan 2, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, The Secret Life of Pets, The Grinch, and The Secret Life of Pets 2.

His feature film Instructions Not Included, which he directed, co-wrote, and starred in, became the most successful Spanish-language film in the U.S. and worldwide and broke numerous box office records, earning more than $100 million worldwide. Derbez also appeared in the Lionsgate/ Pantelion film How to Be a Latin Lover alongside Salma Hayek and Kristen Bell, and in the Paramount film Dora and the Lost City of Gold. In 2021, he appeared in the Academy Award winning Apple TV film CODA, which won him, along with the rest of the cast, the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Derbez resides in Los Angeles, is married to Alessandra Rosaldo, and his 4 children: comedian actress Aislinn Derbez, actor and singer Vadhir Derbez, actor Jose Eduardo Derbez, and Aitina Derbez. Together, their family starred in the documentary comedy television series De viaje con los Derbez, along with Aislinn's then-husband Mauricio Ochmann and their daughter Kailani.
