Barry Sheerman, English academic and politician
Barry John Sheerman (born 17 August 1940) is a British Labour and Co-operative politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Huddersfield, previously Huddersfield East, since 1979. He is also Labour's longest continuously serving MP in the current parliament; only Margaret Beckett has longer total service. Sheerman has announced he will not seek re-election at the next general election.
